Ylang Ylang—The “Flower of Flowers”

July 7, 2011

Distributors and staff at the Master Distributor Retreat in June enjoyed harvesting ylang ylang flowers on the YL farm in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Ylang ylang means “flower of flowers” and was named such because the tree has beautiful, fragrant flowers, from which a powerful essential oil is steam distilled.
The oil is used in hair formulas, to balance female-male energies, to restore peace and positive thoughts, and as an aphrodisiac. It is also used for supporting normal blood pressures, easing minor motion sickness, and contains a host of other health-enhancing properties.
Ylang ylang originates from Madagascar and is being grown on the Young Living farm in Guayaquil, Ecuador. In the Young Living ylang ylang groves, it’s harvest time again, although the main production time for ylang ylang runs from February to May.
During the recent Master Leader Retreat in June, distributors had the opportunity to harvest ylang ylang flowers and plant new trees. They thoroughly enjoyed learning how to correctly harvest the flowers for the greatest yield and highest therapeutic value.
They learned that just as the monsoon rains start to end, the trees load up with water from the rain and put on flowers. The flowers then become very heavily laden with the water, which increases the glucose, or what we call the Brix, in the flower; and that all converts to essential oil, which is very exciting.
Because of the beautiful fragrance, we have ylang ylang trees around our house and have our windows open at night to let in the breeze. On the farm a gentle breeze blows most of the time, and it’s most refreshing. It keeps the air clean and helps to move out the mosquitos during mosquito time.
But at night when it’s cool and that breeze blows in through the windows, the whole house fills with the fragrance of the ylang ylang flower, because the ylang ylang tree produces the most oil in the flowers during the nighttime and early morning, before the heat of the day.

The Exotic Smell of Ylang Ylang

July 28, 2011
Gary Young teaches his Ecuadorian workers to recognize the pure, sweet fragrance of a perfectly mature ylang ylang flower.
Now how do we know when the flower is mature and right for picking? That is really important to know.
I teach my employees who work in the fields to pick the perfect, mature flower and smell it and smell it and smell it until they build a memory of the smell. Then I have them pick and smell a flower that is oxidized so that they can smell the difference. The oxidized flower has a sour note, almost like it is a little rancid. It still has a nice fragrance, but they can smell that faint sour note; it’s very mild, very little, but it’s there.
When others pay a picker by the kilo, they will get green, yellow, and oxidized, shriveling, brownish-yellow flowers. These will all go in the basket, because that picker wants to make as much volume as he can because that’s how he is paid. And, unfortunately, in the commercial farms, that is what happens.
Now what makes that bad? When the flower starts to oxidize, the compounds start to hydrolyze, creating a sour smell that can affect the oil a little or a lot. The smell of ylang ylang is exquisite, and we don’t want anything less than that most exquisite smell.
Perhaps the majority of people wouldn’t know the difference, but it’s like eating an organic peach ripened on the tree or a non-organic peach picked slightly green and then left to ripen on the counter or in a box. The peach still tastes wonderful until you taste the organic, ripened peach from the tree. Then that is the only kind you want.
I remember when we first went to Ecuador and started eating the fresh mangos and bananas. We were amazed at how delicious they were, but prior to going to Ecuador, we didn’t know the difference.

Which Flowers Should We Pick?

July 21, 2011
Gary points out a delicate ylang ylang bloom that is mature and ready to be picked.
Because harvesting ylang ylang is all done by hand, it’s really important to know which flowers you should pick.
We want to pick flowers that have nice, long, yellow petals with perhaps a little green on them. If a flower is over mature, it starts to shrivel, or atrophy, and smells sour. A flower that is still quite lime green is not mature enough to be picked.
What we have again is just like with other plants; it is in the harvesting and knowing the right time and the right flowers to pick.
With ylang ylang we generally consider the first four grades of flowers: extra fine, fine, first, and second. Sometimes we have even third and fourth qualifications, but the only ones that we’re concerned about are the first four grades.
So you can go from having a green, immature flower that is classified as a second grade to having a beautiful flower that is yellowish, mature, and rich in fragrance, which would be classified as an extra fine grade. The oxidized, over-mature flowers would likely be classified as first or second grade.

Finding Strength and Comfort through Essential Oils

July 25, 2011

This week we have a very special and personal post from Tracy Griffiths, a member of our Integrated Health Professionals Council (IHPC). Each month our IHPC members submit a topic of their choosing; Tracy felt her story should be shared to give hope to others struggling with similar issues. We feel our readers will benefit from her unique story and be inspired by the courage she demonstrated during a deeply personal and painful experience:
“A few weeks ago my father passed away. He was diagnosed with lung and bone cancer about seven months ago, and he endured very aggressive radiation and chemotherapy treatments. After his condition worsened, he decided to reach out to Hospice and let go.
During his painful journey, I spent as much time as possible with him. I applied essential oils on his feet and legs, gave him Reiki treatments, helped him get in more comfortable positions, and spent quiet time with him. When we spoke, we expressed our love and gratitude for each other. We also slipped in a few jokes here and there. My father’s sense of humor was outstanding throughout his ordeal with cancer.
The essential oils I used most with him were frankincense, Valor®, Peace & Calming®, lavender, PanAway®, peppermint and Deep Relief™ Roll-On. I chose these oils for their relieving and calming properties. I would apply them to his feet, anywhere he was uncomfortable, and on his pillowcase so he could easily inhale them while he rested in bed. I can honestly say that every time I put the oils on him, he either told me or showed me that he got a little and sometimes a lot of relief from what he was feeling. He would also become less fidgety and feel calmer and more relaxed.
A few hours before my dad passed, the Hospice home caregiver and I gave him a sponge bath with warm water infused with Peace & Calming. Afterwards I anointed his whole body with frankincense. I believe these essential oils helped me remain calm and strong throughout this difficult process.
Fortunately, my whole family was with him when he died, and just moments before he took that last breath, he opened his eyes and looked at each one of us indicating that he knew we were there and that he loved us.
If you find yourself in difficult situations, may I suggest surrounding yourself with supportive friends and family, taking time to grieve, meditating and practicing restorative yoga, and, of course, using essential oils to help bring peace and calming as you go through this rite of passage.”
-Tracy Griffiths, RPP, RPE
We’re grateful to Tracy for her eloquent words and inspiring story. If Young Living’s essential oils have in someway touched your life or eased your burden, we hope you’ll feel comfortable sharing your experiences with the YL family.

Helping People Find Well-Being

Hermelinda Garcia

Hermelinda Garcia

Hermelinda Garcia is sold on Young Living Essential Oil products. In fact, she can gush for hours about the benefits she and others have experienced. The excitement radiates through her voice as she tells of her journey with Young Living.
Hermelinda's journey began when her friend, Eva Franklin, called to share information about Young Living products and business opportunity. Instantly, Hermelinda sensed a strong feeling of sincerity in Eva's voice. That sincerity made the decision easy for Hermelinda; she had to get involved.
Her future goals with Young Living are simple and straightforward, “I used to have a daycare company, but I moved out of town and want to make it full-time changing the lives of those around me.” To do that, she spreads the word about Young Living Essential Oils and leads by example.

Business Building

Some might think simply telling a person about the products is easy, but Hermelinda takes things one step further. She says, “Have the oils with you, read, investigate, and share the effects these oils have, not by words, but with facts.”
Like many other Young Living distributors, Hermelinda finds benefit in personally using the products. Peppermint, lavender, lemon, grapefruit, Thieves®—it doesn't matter which oil—to her, they're all wonderful. Whether for health, personal care, or household use, Hermelinda finds joy in knowing that she is doing something to improve her life and the lives of those around her. For Hermelinda, that is what Young Living Essential Oils is all about.
Although sharing a personal experience is priceless, there are other ways Hermelinda builds her business. Hermelinda shares, “I love the e-Newsletters that Young Living sends to distributors. They really motivate me. They are full of information, and they can be an excellent source of information for achieving success.”
Having moved from California to Texas, Hermelinda is now trying to establish a relationship with her new network of friends in an effort to foster a community of healing through Young Living Essential Oils. The challenge is one she gladly accepts, knowing there are many like her who want to experience something greater than themselves. After all, Hermelinda says, “I really love to help people; I enjoy finding their well-being.”

Flu could be causing pneumonia

The notes of Margaret Atkinson
from a conference call held May 4, 2009
Notes for Building a Strong Immune System
Prompted by Swine Flu Scare
Gary says not to be concerned. Last year 30,000 people had flu and [some died] this year only one death has occurred from Swine flue and that one was in Mexico.
Be cautious, but don't fear since fear lowers your immune system.
Flu could be causing pneumonia which could cause deaths.
The purpose of the media exposure is to give pharmaceutical companies a reason to create a new vaccine for adults and children. Vaccines have been proven to cause adult autistic behavior, also linked to leukemia which is on the rise since WWII when all the soldiers had to be vaccinated.
How to Keep Your Immune System Strong:
Digestive System
· No alcoholic beverages (sugar)
· No soda pop (with or without sugar)
· No coffee
· No chocolate unless it is a bean right out of the pod or was processed below 55 degrees and contains no sugar.  Heat destroys the antioxidant properties.
 · If you consume foods that change your blood to acid your cortisol levels will raise and you are committing slow suicide.
 · What are you eating before you go to sleep?
 ·  It takes 48 hours to process certain food which creates mucus.
 · Metabolic waste is then reabsorbed into bloodstream
 · 1 - 1 1/2 gallons of water per day? Not sure what he said.
 · At night eat white basmati rice with fruit and cinnamon.
Oils for Protection
 · In the morning:
 · Rub oils of Valor, Highest Potential on bottom of feet. Also Thieves, Exodus II and  oregano which kills viruses.
 · Use frankincense and myrrh, mixed half and half on the feet.  (At Christ's birth myrrh, which is anti infectious, was 10 times more valuable than frankincense and balsam referred to as "liquid gold" was 10 times more valuable than myrrh. These were the three greatest gifts to give a king from kings. Balsam used for greatest repair of DNA and increases longevity.  Frankincense regulates thyroid function. Depression related to thyroid deficiency.)
Prep body in the PM
             ·  Ingest Live 5 at night
             ·  Longevity - 1 in PM
             · Use Cleaning Trio
             · Use AlkaLime for less mucus

· If mask is needed because of allergies, spray it with Thieves or Purification.
Prep body in the AM
             · Inner Defense - 1 in AM.
             · Juvapower before breakfast.hieves
             · Use Thieves waterless hand cleaner
             ·  Use cleaner on toilet paper to wipe off toilet seats.
Children:
· MightyVites, chewable enzymes
· Massage children with new Blue Eucalyptus oil (great for coughs).
 ·  Also use Immupower on back and feet of children.
· Diffuse Blue Eucalyptus with RC or with Thieves or Exodus II
· Buy a diffuser for each floor of the house and diffuse 20 minutes night and morning. Put on a timer and turn on for 20 minutes every 2 hours.
Use Blue Eucalyptus in throat with Thieves Spray, it's strong, 1-2 drops, it's a natural antibiotic. Also can put 1 or 2 drops under the tongue.
Take 1 capsule (make yourself) RutaVala, chew Immupro.
Get enough sleep - fatigue causes acid.
Thieves Mouthwash - hold in mouth for at least 1 minute.  Use Thieves Toothpaste.
Use NingXia Red, Live 5, True Source with extra B and Master Formula vitamins.
Ultra Young - Spray after 3 p.m. Then massage into cheek.

Better Than Skin Deep

July 12, 2011

While attending Young Living’s recent Ireland Incentive Trip, a friend showed me a reddened area on her skin. The area had been bothering her for a while and even after using many wonderful essential, it was still there.
When I’m at a loss, I trust the Creator of all life. So I quieted down my mental chatter and Mineral Essence™ simply popped into mind. Minerals! That was the key!
According to Nobel Prize winner Dr. Linus Pauling, “You can trace . . . every ailment to your minerals deficiency.” Young Living’s Mineral Essence is a balanced, full-spectrum ionic mineral complex that is enhanced with essential oils. Ionic minerals are the most fully and quickly absorbed form of minerals available.
Absorption through the gastrointestinal tract to a specific area may be difficult. However, Mineral Essence can quickly pass through the skin and feed the cells in the area where it is applied. And besides helping the skin’s surface layer achieve mineral balance, trace minerals carry energy because of their electric charge. Thus, they help energize the skin.
Because the midbrain receives visual, auditory, and tactile information, the skin is considered a relay to the brain. What if we were to apply this precious blend of minerals directly to the area? What could be achieved?
To help answer this question and address my friend’s issue, we decided on a layer of Mineral Essence and three drops of R.C. essential oil blend. The next morning she showed me her skin and the skin looked as if nothing had ever been there!
Mineral Essence is very necessary in today’s world. Mindful to continue to take it internally, I have also applied it to my “morning stiff low back.” I applied five drops of Mineral Essence and as it was applied, the stiffness left. For total relief I also applied Deep Relief™ Roll-On. That was the first time I could sit for hours at a computer and walk away comfortable, body completely pain free. I now do this as a daily practice.
Every day with help from God, we find new and wonderful uses for these gifts of health and well-being.

Copaiba Essential Oil

A Recap from the Copaiba Conference Call July 7, 2009

 with Marc Schreuder

This conference call from YoungLiving about the newest essential oil Copaiba was very informative. I hope moreof you will set aside time to be on these calls and increase your learning ofhow to best use our essential oils. Below is a recap of my notes from the call.Check the Young Living Product Blog website to hear the call for yourself andread more about this amazing oil. Our family has already seen firsthand howpowerful it can be.
From the heart of the Amazon junglesof Brazil, copaiba oleo resin is tapped directly from the tree. A hole isdrilled into the trunk of the 50 to 80- feet tall tree and out will pour thisliquid resin. The resin is then vacuum distilled, using no water, no heat, onlyvacuum pressure to separate off the precious essential aromatic oil. Braziliantribal natives harvest and process the copaiba sold through Young Living.
Sold in Amazonian pharmacies andused for nearly 800 years in folk medicine, Copaiba was also listed in the USPharmacopeia from 1820 to 1910 for topical and oral uses and is still on theFDA GRAS list (Generally Regarded as Safe). Some of the historic uses aredigestive complaints including stomach aches, stomach infections, gastritis, antiseptic, arthritis, cellular mutations, tumors, Fibromyalgia, and pain.
Copaiba is the highest inbeta-caryophyllene which is an anti-inflammatory compound. A 1996 study showedbeta-caryophyllene to be effective in treating stress induced ulcers.Beta-caryophyllene is also found in Helichrysum at between 8 and 12%, whileCopaiba contains 50% beta-car. Clove oil contains 6-8% beta-caryophyllene incomparison.
Marc Schreuder said on the conferencecall - that Copaiba was Helichrysum on steroids. He has been studying Copaibafor eight years and says it is his number one favorite oil with Frankincensecoming in at number two. He also says that combining Copaiba and Frankincensewould give you the highest spiritual and emotional oil blend. Just likeSandalwood is considered an excellent emotional supportive oil, Copaiba is sixtimes better and Marc calls it Sandalwood on steroids due to its highsesquiterpene content. He also likes Copaiba mixed with a little Peppermint forpain applied topically.
For oral consumption, traditionaluses are as much as ½ teaspoon twice daily. Four to six drops per day in acapsule should show benefit. It is not really a diffusing oil and this aromatictreasure is currently found in Young Living's Deep Relief and Breathe AgainRoll-ons.
Marc also pointed out that much of the Copaiba oil marketed is adulterated with soy bean oil or kerosene to extendthe yield. Just not ours.

How to use Young Living Essential Oils

P.H.I. Team News
How to use Young Living Essential Oils
There are three basic ways to use essential oils: inhalation, topical application, and internal consumption. Inhalation
The inhalation of essential oils heightens the senses and can trigger numerous desired responses in the body. Below are several techniques used to inhale essential oils:
1. Direct inhalation-simply smell them.
2. Diffuse the oils using a Young Living diffuser which disperses the oil in a micro-fine vapor into the air. The Young Living diffuser will not heat the oils, thus ensuring full benefits, as extreme heat can damage important constituents in the oil.
3. Fill a humidifier with water. Put a tissue or small cloth, sprinkled with a few drops of oil, in front of the escaping steam. (Do not put oil in your humidifier. It will float on top of the water instead of rising with the water vapor and may cause damage to your humidifier.)
4. Carefully pour hot water into a bowl and add a few drops of oil. Cover your head and bowl in a tent-like fashion with a towel. Breathe deeply and slowly.
Topical Application
Apply essential oils directly onto the skin where indicated. Dilute with V-6 Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex or a pure vegetable oil (e.g., olive or almond) before applying if dilution is indicated in the Application Chart. Dilution may protect against possible skin sensitivities. Key points of application on the body are listed below.
To apply topically on any of these areas, follow these simple steps:
1. Carefully tip the oil bottle and drop 2-3 drops in the palm of the hand or directly on the desired application area.
2. If dropping oil in your hand, rub palms together in a circular motion and then massage oil onto the desired point of application. If applying directly to the desired area, use your hand to massage the oil in a circular motion into the skin. Repeat if desired.
Attention: Essential oils are very potent, and some may be irritating to the skin. If irritation occurs, immediately apply V-6 Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex or pure vegetable oil to the area to dilute. Please read label directions for each individual oil before using.
You can also create your own massage oil blends by mixing your favorite essential oils with V-6 Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex or by using Young Living's pre-mixed massage oil blends (e.g., Relaxation, Ortho Ease) to relax, uplift, soothe, and relieve.
Where to Topically Apply Essential Oils:
  • Crown of head

  • Temples

  • Behind ears

  • Neck

  • Upper back

  • Abdomen

  • Over vital organs

  • Soles and top of feet

  • Ankles

  • Suggested internal consumption methods:
    1. Put several drops of oil into an empty capsule and swallow with water.
    2. Add 1-2 drops to a glass of water or rice milk.
    3. Put 1-2 drops onto a piece of bread or add to your meals when cooking.
    4. Add 1-2 drops onto a teaspoon of Blue Agave and swallow.
    5. Drop directly onto the tongue and swallow. Exercise extreme caution when using this method. Many oils are very strong and should be tested by pouring a single drop onto a spoon and tasting a small portion to determine the amount of oil to be used.
Young Living essential oils are pure, which makes them powerful and effective. For the responsible use of essential oils, read the complete label on each bottle and follow the safety guidelines and tips found in the Essential Oils Users Guide, available from your Young Living Independent Distributor.

The Danger is in the Drug Itself

    P.H.I. Team News

The Danger is in the Drug Itself
The dangers of prescription drugs are intrinsic to the drugs themselves. No matter how careful the physician is in prescribing and how compliant the patient is in following doctor's orders, even then deaths and damages occur. In fact, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, more than 100,000 Americans die every year, not from illegal drugs, not from drug overdoses, not from over-the-counter drugs, and not from drug abuses, but from properly prescribed, properly taken prescriptions.
In this country, more people die from doctor's prescriptions every ten days than were killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.  Why is this so? Why do allopathic drugs always have undesirable effects while one can find healing with natural products, such as essential oils, with no undesirable effects?   Here is why.
Why Companies Deliberately Sell Dangerous Products
It is illegal to patent any natural product. The way to big profits in the medicine industry is to create an unnatural substance that never before existed in nature, then patent it, and obtain a monopoly. Hence, the molecules of pharmaceutical drugs are all strange to the human body. In all of the history of humankind, such molecules were never encountered or taken into any human body.
Hence, the body does not easily metabolize them. God never made your body to accept and deal with these chemicals and antibiotics.
They have found traces of prescription drugs in bodies that were taken in childhood, decades ago.
On the other hand, natural molecules, such as those found in essential oils, are easily metabolized by the body. In fact, your body was created to handle them. When an essential oil molecule finds the receptor sites it was designed to fit and conveys its information to the cell, it then goes on its way to the liver and the kidneys and moves out of the body. Its benefits have been conveyed and its job is complete.
By contrast, the unnatural molecules of man-made drugs attach themselves to various tissues, disrupting normal function for years while the body tries to figure out what to do with them. Meanwhile, they wreak mischief with our bodily functions and even our minds.
    Drugs vs. Oils
Drugs and oils work in opposite ways:
    Drugs toxify. Oils detoxify.
Drugs clog and confuse receptor sites. Oils clean receptor sites.
Drugs depress the immune system. Oils strengthen the immune system.
Antibiotics attack bacteria indiscriminately, killing both the good and the bad.  Oils attack only the harmful bacteria, allowing our body's friendly flora to flourish.
Drugs are designed to send misinformation to cells or to block certain receptor sites in order to trick the body into giving up symptoms.
Drugs never deal with the actual causes of disease. They aren't designed for that purpose. While they may give prompt relief for certain uncomfortable symptoms, because of their strange, unnatural design, they will always disrupt certain other bodily functions. Thus you always have some side effects.
Oil molecules send information to cells and cleanse receptor sites so that they bring your body back to natural function.
Oils are balancing to the body. Drugs are unbalancing to the body. Oils address the causes of disease at a cellular level by deleting misinformation and reprogramming correct information so that cells function properly and in harmony with one another. With drugs, misinformation is fed into the cells so that some temporary relief may be obtained, but there is never any true healing. Drugs only trade one kind of disease for another.
Because essential oils properly applied always work toward the restoration of proper bodily function, they do not cause undesirable side effects. They are feeding the body with truth. Drugs feed the body with lies. While no amount of truth can contradict itself, it doesn't take many lies before contradictions occur and the body suffers ill effects.
    Sixteen Doctors Speak Out
Not all physicians are caught up in the idea that the only good medicines are ones that can also be harmful. Here are some comments by physicians, themselves, on the practice of medicine:
"The cause of most disease is in the poisonous drugs physicians superstitiously give in order to effect a cure." Charles E. Page, M.D.
"Medicines are of subordinate importance because of their very nature, they can only work symptomatically." Hans Kusche, M.D.
"The person who takes medicine must recover twice, once from the disease and once from the medicine." William Osler, M.D.
"If all the medicine in the world were thrown into the sea, it would be bad for the fish and good for humanity"  O.W. Holmes, M.D. (Prof. of Med. Harvard University)
"Drug medication consists in employing, as remedies for disease, those things which produce disease in well persons.  Its materia medica is simply a lot of drugs or chemicals or dye-stuffs -- in a word, poisons. All are incompatible with vital matter; and all produce disease when brought in contact in any manner with the living -- all are poisons."  R.T. TraIl, M.D., (lecture to members of Congress and the medical profession, Smithsonian Institute, Washington D.C.)
"Every drug increases and complicates the patient's condition."   Robert Henderson, M.D.
"The greatest part of all chronic disease is created by the suppression of acute disease by drug poisoning."  Henry Lindlahr, M.D.
"Every educated physician knows that most diseases are not appreciably helped by medicine."  Richard C. Cabot, M.D. (Mass. Gen. Hospital)
"Medicine is only palliative, for back of disease lies the cause, and this cause no drug can reach."  Wier Mitchel, M.D.
"Medical practice has neither philosophy nor common sense to recommend it. In sickness, the body is already loaded with impurities. By taking drug - medicines more impurities are added. Thereby, the case is further embarrassed and harder to cure." Elmer Lee, M.D., Past Vice President, Academy of Medicine.
"Our figures show approximately four and one half million hospital admissions annually due to the adverse reactions to drugs. Further, the average hospital patient has as much as thirty percent chance, depending how long he is in, of doubling his stay due to adverse drug reactions." Milton Silverman, ME.DO. (Professor of Pharmacology, University of California)
"What hope is there for medical science to ever become a true science when the entire structure of medical knowledge is built around the idea that there is an entity called disease which can be expelled when the right drug is found?" John HE. Tilden, ME.DO.
"We are prone to thinking of drug abuse in terms of the male population and illicit drugs such as heroin, cocaine, and marijuana. It may surprise you to learn that a greater problem exists with millions of women dependent on legal prescription drugs." Robert Mendelssohn, ME.DO (author of book, "Confessions of a Medical Heretic.)
"Why would a patient swallow a poison because he is ill, or take that which would make a well man sick."  I.IF. Keble, ME.DO.
"Drugs never cure disease. They merely hush the voice of nature's protest, and pull down the danger signals she erects along the pathway of transgression. Any poison taken into the system has to be reckoned with later on even though it palliates present symptoms. Pain may disappear, but the patient is left in a worse condition, though unconscious of it at the time."  Daniel. HE. Kress, ME.DO.
"The necessity of teaching mankind not to take drugs and medicines, is a duty incumbent upon all who know their uncertainty and injurious effects; and the time is not far distant when the drug system will be abandoned." Charles Ambusher, ME. DO.

    Science Essential Oils

Young Living Essential Oils combines quality wolfberries with carefully monitored production techniques to create a drink that not only tastes good, but that benefits your body.
Free radicals come from sources outside your body, such as tobacco smoke, toxins, or pollutants, and can damage your body's cells, proteins, and DNA by altering their chemical structure. They can cause aging and illness.
Oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) is a value given to a food or supplement's ability to help the body scavenge free radicals before they cause damage. Superoxide-oxygen radical absorbance capacity (S-ORAC) is the value given to a food or supplement's ability to help the body scavenge superoxide-oxygen radicals specifically.
Superoxides are believed to be the most damaging free radicals.
Independent tests show that NingXia Red® offers more ORAC and S-ORAC protection than all other juices tested.

The proprietary blend in NingXia Red may also:
    Protect DNA
Unchecked free radicals attack DNA, the blueprint used to create new cells. If not repaired, damaged DNA copies itself into new cells and each new cell is damaged and mutations occur.*
A number of studies show that wolfberries protect against DNA breakage and mutations.* Additionally, ellagic acid, found in blueberries, raspberries, and pomegranates (all juice ingredients in NingXia Red) may “protect DNA against injury.”*
    Enhance Immunity
In a landmark preclinical study published in the peer-reviewed Journal of the American Nutraceutical Association, researchers determined that wolfberry juice and NingXia Red provides immune-boosting benefits.*
In an animal study done at a hospital in Beijing in 2002, the wolfberry was found to stimulate interleukin-2 and gamma interferon, two anti-inflammatory substances important in supporting a healthy immune system.*
    Support Eye Health
Zeaxanthin is a carotenoid found in high amounts in the wolfberry. And some forty clinical studies show that it has powerful abilities to support the eyes.*

The Power of Ecuador: Ocotea and Dorado Azul, part 2

    June 24, 2011

Dorado azul is recognized largely for its role in respiratory support. This essential oil can be used in many situations to support in the sinuses or lungs. Not surprisingly, dorado azul has high levels of eucalyptol and has a long history of use in folk medicine. The dorado azul plant has been used historically as a daily, mild beverage—especially during the fall and winter months. Today, many users comment that dorado azul provides as much respiratory support as mint and eucalyptus. Users also observe that this Ecuador oil delivers comparable results without the intensity and discomfort sometimes experienced with other oils.
In addition to its respiratory benefits, dorado azul is proving to be a very effective ingredient in essential oil blends that repel insects and pests. In fact, there is the existing literature that promotes the use of dorado azul as an insecticide that can be used to protect stored grain from moths and weevils. Try placing a few cotton balls saturated with dorado azul in food storage areas to protect items from destructive insects.
Both dorado azul and ocotea essential oils have a balanced and broad chemistry. They wield noteworthy levels of what scientists currently consider the “active” ingredients: ocotea contains substantial levels of cinnamaldehyde and beta-caryophyllene; dorado azul is high in eucalyptol. Could it be that when it comes to function and results, Mother Nature knows best? For decades, cinnamon, clove, mint, and eucalyptus have been largely cultivated, managed, and controlled in order to contain the chemical profile that science deems desirable. However, these Ecuador plant species have continued to grow, evolve, and thrive in the wilds of the Amazon basin. It seems that the remarkably rich soil in the fertile Amazon basin may produce higher-quality oil.
Gary Young and the staff at Young Living’s Ecuador farm, Finca Botanica Aromatica, are very hands-on with the production of dorado azul and ocotea. As they continue to research and experiment with these unique offering, there is no doubt that essential oil enthusiasts around the world will benefit from their hard work and dedication!
